If the hyper-reality (some might say artifice) of movie musicals isn't to your tastes, Christophe Honoré's (Inside Paris) latest may prove to be just the tonic. Romance and tragedy swirl around Ismael, his long-term girlfriend Julie, his colleague Alice, Julie's sister Jeanne, and a high school crush, Erwann. Love Songs plays it straight and carries the narrative and the emotions forward through its songs with a refreshingly unfussy grace and ease. Definitely not Andrew Lloyd Webber.
